The State Government looks like it will approve the sale of a large amount of public land to the west of the city for housing. This land used to used by the Army -- and now is occupied by kangaroos etc. The west of the city is becoming a disaster zone ecologically -- large sections of the main river there, the Nepean, are totally covered by an aquatic weed for instance, and the main cause of the crisis is excessive housing development. The panorama from yesterday in Macquarie Street, outside the State Parliament building, shows Greens MLC Sylvia Hale addressing the crowd -- most of whom would have come in from the Western Suburbs for the event. The normally conservative Murdoch press tabloid the Daily Telegraph is suprisingly campaigning on the side of the environment in this situation -- their report.
